Labuan Bajo Port Multipurpose Terminal Ready to Operate

Bisnis.com, SURABAYA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III has ensured that the multi-purpose terminal of Labuan Bajo Port in Wae Kelambu, West Manggarai, is ready to operate following trials that have been carried out since April 10. Pelindo III VP Corporate Communication Suryo Khasabu said that since the initial trial was carried out until now Pelindo III has served 19 container ships and 1 non-container ship. "The number of containers served has reached 1,101 TEUs [twenty-foot equivalent units] and for non-container as much as 1,700 tons of cement," he said, Thursday (17/6/2021).

He said that the main port facilities that had been completed were the docks, connecting bridges, stacking yards, port entrances and exits, to the port operational office.

In addition, Pelindo III has also brought in various equipment to support port operations. At this initial stage, the terminal is equipped with 1 unit of reach stacker, 1 unit of forklift, and 2 units of the 20-foot trailer truck.

"There are already 3 shipping companies that have entered the multipurpose terminal of Labuan Bajo Port with an average of 2-3 visits for each one month," said Suryo. He added that the three shipping companies that have entered the multipurpose terminal of Labuan Bajo are Mentari Mas Multimoda, Meratus Line, and Tanto Intim Line.

The multipurpose terminal of Labuan Bajo Port is a new port built in collaboration with Pelindo III and the Ministry of Transportation. The port was built to support the smooth flow of logistics in the East Nusa Tenggara region as well as to support the government's program to make Labuan Bajo a super-priority tourist destination. The port has a dock of 120 meters long, a seaside stacking field of 3 ha with a container capacity of 75,000 TEUs per year. The land area of 3 ha is designated for the office area and supporting facilities for operational activities as well as the fuel oil terminal.
